I. Project Background
As a key force in the energy industry in the Latin American region, Petrobras has strict requirements for the reliability and safety of pipeline system control equipment in the aspects of oil exploration, extraction, transportation, and refining. In the expansion project of one of its large-scale refineries, it was necessary to purchase a batch of TRUNNION MOUNTED BALL VALVES for the pipelines that transport high-temperature, high-pressure, and highly corrosive oil products to ensure the precise regulation of the medium and the stable operation of the pipeline system.
II. Product Selection
J-VALVES selected TRUNNION MOUNTED BALL VALVES according to the characteristics of the project, which have the following features:
The material of the valve body is forged steel/cast steel, suitable for the oil refining scenario.
The valve seat adopts high-performance sealing materials, which are resistant to oil product corrosion and can adapt to the temperature range from -29 °C to 180 °C.
The ball is precisely machined to ensure smooth flow and tight shut-off.
The pressure rating covers Class 150 - Class 2500, suitable for pipelines with different pressure sections.
III. Customized Design
Anti-corrosion optimization: The surface of the valve stem is treated with a special coating, and the sealing surfaces of the ball and the valve seat are overlaid with hard alloys to enhance the wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and erosion resistance.
Structural adaptation: Custom-made lengthened valve stems and convenient interfaces for operating actuators are provided to meet the requirements of deeply buried pipe galleries and automated control.
IV. Testing and Verification
Before leaving the factory, a full-process performance test was carried out, including nitrogen gas tightness test, simulated oil product medium circulation pressure test, high and low temperature cycle test, etc. Certified by a third-party testing institution, all indicators meet the Petrobras industry standards as well as ASME and API specifications.
V. Project Application Effects
Stable operation: It has been in continuous operation for more than 12 months without leakage, ensuring the precise shut-off and regulation of the medium and helping to stabilize the production process.
Efficient adaptation: It is perfectly integrated into the automated control system, with a quick response to opening and closing, and good coordination with upstream and downstream equipment, improving the operating efficiency of the system.
Cost optimization: It reduces the frequency of maintenance and the cost of spare parts replacement, avoids the losses caused by unplanned shutdowns, and realizes the life-cycle cost control.
VI. Customer Feedback
The engineers of the Petrobras project recognized the TRUNNION MOUNTED BALL VALVES of J-VALVES. They believed that these valves performed excellently under harsh working conditions, the customized design met the requirements, and the tests were rigorous, providing a powerful guarantee for the efficient and safe operation of the refinery. They also looked forward to future cooperation.
With 16 years of experience in industrial valve solutions, J-VALVES has created a reliable application scheme for TRUNNION MOUNTED BALL VALVES in the Petrobras project through precise selection, customized design, and strict testing, setting a benchmark for valve adaptation in the energy industry and continuously helping global petrochemical customers cope with the challenges of complex working conditions.
