Main Structural Components

  • Valve Body: The outer shell, usually made of stainless steel, supports internal components and protects against external influences, ensuring stable operation in various conditions.
    Ball: The core with a through - hole, made of metal and precisely processed. Its quality impacts sealing and fluid control.
    Seat Ring: On both sides of the ball, made of elastic materials like PTFE. It seals with the ball during rotation to prevent leakage.
    Stem: Connects the ball to the drive device (handwheel, electric or pneumatic actuator). Rotating the stem drives the ball to open and close the valve.
    Trunnion: Distinguishes trunnion ball valves. Fixed at the ball's ends, it allows the ball to rotate around it, providing support and bearing the ball's weight and fluid pressure.
    Drive Device: Manually, pneumatically or electrically drives stem rotation. Manual uses a handwheel, pneumatic uses compressed air for fast response, and electric uses a motor for remote and automated operation.

Working Principle

The working principle of the trunnion ball valve is based on the rotational movement of the ball. When the valve needs to be opened, the drive device (such as manually turning the handwheel, or the action of a pneumatic or electric actuator) drives the stem to rotate, and the stem then drives the ball to rotate around the trunnion. During the rotation process, the through-hole of the ball gradually aligns with the pipeline axis. When it is completely aligned, the fluid can pass through the valve unobstructed, and the valve is in the fully open state.
When the valve needs to be closed, the drive device acts in the opposite direction, making the stem drive the ball to continue rotating 90 degrees. As the ball rotates, its through-hole gradually becomes perpendicular to the pipeline direction until it is completely perpendicular. At this time, the fluid is blocked by the ball and cannot pass through the valve, and the valve is in the fully closed state. During the entire working process, the trunnion provides stable support for the rotation of the ball, ensuring that the ball can rotate precisely and smoothly, and achieving effective control of the fluid.

Trunnion Ball Valve   Process Structure
Trunnion ball valve by a number of key parts constitute a unique process structure. Valve body commonly used carbon steel, stainless steel and other high-quality metal, casting or forging molding. Casting is suitable for complex shapes to meet a variety of connections and working conditions; Forging gives the valve body high strength to cope with harsh environments.
