Main Types of Trunnion Ball Valves in Natural Gas Skid-mounted Systems
(I)Classification by Valve Body Structure

Fully Welded Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: All components of the fully welded trunnion ball valve are connected by welding to form an integrated structure. This design eliminates potential leakage paths and ensures the structural integrity of the valve.
• Application: Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature natural gas pipeline systems, especially in environments requiring high sealing performance and corrosion resistance, such as deep-sea natural gas pipelines or long-distance natural gas pipelines.
• Advantage: Due to the firmness of the welded structure, this valve can operate stably under extreme conditions and reduce maintenance requirements.

Split Body Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: The valve body of the split body trunnion ball valve is composed of two or three parts and is usually connected by bolts. This design is convenient for installation and maintenance because internal components can be replaced without disassembling the entire valve.
• Application: Widely used in occasions that require frequent maintenance and overhaul, such as natural gas processing plants and LNG receiving stations.
• Advantage: Facilitates maintenance and replacement of internal components, reducing downtime and maintenance costs.

Top Entry Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: The ball and seat of the top entry trunnion ball valve can be accessed from the top of the valve body for maintenance or replacement. This design does not require the entire valve to be removed from the pipeline.
• Application: Suitable for natural gas skid-mounted systems that require frequent maintenance and inspection, such as natural gas compression stations or metering stations.
• Advantage: Simplifies the maintenance process and reduces maintenance costs and downtime.

(II)Classification by function

Cryogenic Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: The cryogenic trunnion ball valve is specially designed for extremely low temperature environments and can operate normally at -162°C (the temperature of LNG). Its materials and sealing systems are specially treated to adapt to low temperature conditions.
• Application: Widely used in LNG receiving terminals, LNG carriers and LNG storage facilities.
• Advantage: It can maintain sealing performance and mechanical stability at extreme low temperatures.

Double Block and Bleed Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: This valve has double block and bleed functions. It can cut off the fluid upstream and downstream when closed and discharge the residual fluid through the discharge port in the middle cavity.
• Application: Suitable for natural gas systems that require high safety, such as maintenance and overhaul of natural gas pipelines.
• Advantage: Improves the safety of the system and reduces the risk during maintenance.

Double Acting Trunnion Ball Valve
• Characteristics: The double acting trunnion ball valve has reliable sealing performance in both upstream and downstream directions and can maintain sealing even under high pressure differences.
• Application: Suitable for bidirectional flow control of natural gas pipelines, such as natural gas pressure regulating stations.
• Advantage: Improves the flexibility and reliability of the system.

Flanged Trunnion Ball Valve

•Feature: Flanged connection is one of the most common connection methods in natural gas pipeline systems. The flanged trunnion ball valve connects the valve body and the pipeline flange together through bolts.

•Application: Suitable for natural gas pipeline systems that require frequent disassembly and maintenance.

•Advantage: Firm connection, easy installation and disassembly.

Welded Trunnion Ball Valve

•Feature: The welded trunnion ball valve connects the valve body and the pipeline together by welding to form an integral structure.

•Application: Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature natural gas pipeline systems, especially in environments that require high sealing performance and corrosion resistance.

•Advantage: Firm structure, good sealing performance, and reduced risk of leakage.

Threaded Trunnion Ball Valve

•Feature: The threaded trunnion ball valve connects the valve body and the pipeline together through threads. This connection method is simple and quick.

•Application: Suitable for small natural gas pipeline systems or occasions that require quick installation.

•Advantage: Convenient installation and low cost.
