In the application of Trunnion ball valve, the DBB (Double Block and Bleed) seat design is a common choice. Its unique structure gives it significant advantages under specific working conditions. The following are the appropriate times to choose the DBB seat design and related considerations.
Applicable working conditions:
Occasions requiring automatic pressure relief.
The DBB valve seat design has an automatic pressure relief function. When the pressure in the valve chamber abnormally rises, the pressure can be released to the downstream or upstream pipeline through the valve seat. This design is very effective in preventing overpressure in valves and pipeline systems, especially suitable for working conditions where pressure may increase due to temperature changes or medium accumulation, such as long-distance pipelines or industrial pipeline systems that require frequent operation.
Scenarios with moderate sealing requirements.
The DBB valve seat adopts a single piston effect (SPE) design, which can achieve bidirectional sealing, but its sealing performance is slightly inferior to that of the DIB (Double Isolation and Bleed) valve seat. If the working condition has relatively high sealing requirements but not extremely harsh, and more attention is paid to cost control and ease of operation, the DBB valve seat is an economical and practical choice.
Situations where the medium is non-hazardous or low-hazardous.
Since the DBB valve seat may leak a small amount of medium to the downstream or upstream pipeline during the pressure relief process, it is more suitable for occasions where the medium is non-hazardous or low-hazardous. For example, in pipeline systems transporting water, steam or ordinary oil products, the DBB valve seat can meet the basic sealing and safety requirements.
