What are the industry-specific design standards for Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves?

Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry


  • API 6D: This is a commonly used valve design standard in the petroleum and natural gas industry. It stipulates the valve's dimensions, pressure ratings, material requirements, design and manufacturing requirements, etc., ensuring the reliability and safety of valves in petroleum and natural gas transmission pipelines. For example, in high-pressure and large-diameter oil and gas transmission pipelines, the wall thickness and connection methods of valves need to be designed in accordance with the requirements of API 6D to withstand high pressure and prevent leakage.

  • API 607: This is a standard formulated for the fireproof design requirements of valves. In case of a fire in petroleum and natural gas facilities, valves need to maintain their sealing performance within a certain period of time to prevent the spread of the fire and the leakage of media. If Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves are used in such scenarios, the fire resistance of materials, sealing structures, etc. must comply with the provisions of API 607. For example, seats and seals need to be made of special fireproof materials.

Chemical Industry

  • FDA-related Standards: The relevant regulations and standards of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have strict requirements on the equipment and materials used in the food and pharmaceutical industries. If Trunnion Mounted Ball Valves are used for fluid control in food and pharmaceutical production processes, the safety and hygiene of materials and the overall design of the valves need to comply with FDA standards to ensure the quality and safety of products.

Low Temperature Industry


  • BS 6364: When valves are used in low temperature environments, such as in the transportation of liquefied natural gas, this standard needs to be followed.
