In industrial fields such as petrochemical and natural gas transportation, the complex working conditions of high temperature and high pressure pose stringent requirements for the performance of valves. Thanks to its unique structural design and excellent performance, the trunnion ball valve has become an ideal choice for dealing with such extreme environments.
The core advantage of the trunnion ball valve lies in its unique trunnion support structure. Compared with ordinary ball valves, trunnion ball valves are equipped with trunnion supports at both ends of the ball. This design greatly distributes the load generated by the medium pressure and reduces the wear of the valve stem and seat. In high temperature and high pressure environments, the medium pressure will increase significantly with the rise of temperature. The valve stem of an ordinary ball valve is prone to deformation and jamming due to excessive load, resulting in valve failure.
In terms of material selection, for high temperature and high pressure working conditions, trunnion ball valves use special high-temperature and high-pressure resistant alloy materials. The valve body is usually made of chrome-molybdenum alloy steel or duplex stainless steel. These materials not only have high strength and good toughness but can also maintain stable mechanical properties at high temperatures, preventing the material strength from decreasing due to temperature changes. The valve seat is made of cemented carbide or a composite sealing material of metal and non-metal. Under high temperature and high pressure, the cemented carbide valve seat can maintain good wear resistance. Through special formula optimization, the non-metal sealing material will not soften or deform at high temperatures, ensuring the sealing performance of the valve.
In actual application scenarios, petrochemical refining units provide a platform for trunnion ball valves to showcase their capabilities. In production processes such as atmospheric and vacuum distillation and catalytic cracking, the crude oil and oil gas in the pipelines are under high temperature and high pressure. Trunnion ball valves, with their reliable sealing performance and stable operational characteristics, enable precise control of the medium flow and pressure, ensuring the smooth progress of the refining process. Additionally, on deep-sea natural gas extraction platforms, subsea pipelines are subjected to the high pressure of seawater and a low-temperature environment. Through optimized design, trunnion ball valves can not only withstand the high pressure at a depth of several kilometers under the sea but also adapt to frequent opening and closing in low-temperature conditions, guaranteeing the stable transportation of natural gas.
