Fusion Bonded Epoxy (FBE) coated gate valves are core pipeline equipment for underground oil & gas, municipal water supply, and chemical corrosion-resistant piping systems. The coating integrity and uniform thickness directly determine the service life and operational safety of valves, fully complying with ISO 21809 series international standards (ISO 21809-1, ISO 21809-2, ISO 21809-3) for petroleum and natural gas industrial external anti-corrosion coating. J-VALVES recently completed full factory inspection for a batch of FBE gate valves, achieving 100% one-time pass of high-voltage spark leak detection and magnetic coating thickness testing with zero pinholes, zero defects, and full standard compliance.
In strict accordance with ISO 21809-1:2018 (Petroleum and natural gas industries — External coatings of steel pipes — Part 1: Fusion-bonded epoxy coatings), FBE valve coating inspection covers two mandatory full-inspection items: spark leak detection for coating compactness and multi-point thickness measurement for coating uniformity. The high-voltage spark test adopts the standard calculation formula of 7843√δ, with a testing voltage of 5kV/mm for conventional single-layer FBE coating as specified in the ISO standard. The inspector scans the entire valve body, flange, welds, edge corners, and internal flow channel at a constant speed, targeting all dead zones prone to coating defects.
In this batch of FBE gate valve inspections, J-VALVES achieved zero alarm records in the whole spark test process, proving that the FBE coating forms a continuous, dense, and pore-free protective layer on the carbon steel (WCB) and ductile iron substrate. All coating thickness test data are stably controlled within 320μm–480μm, fully meeting the ISO 21809-1 recommended standard thickness range of 300μm–500μm for heavy-duty single-layer FBE coatings. The weld and edge positions, which are the most prone to insufficient coating thickness, all reach more than 70% of the average coating thickness, eliminating hidden corrosion risks caused by thin coating areas.
J-VALVES strictly implements standardized FBE coating processes in full compliance with the ISO 21809 series: Sa2.5 grade full blasting pretreatment (roughness 40–75μm) meeting ISO 21809-1 surface preparation requirements, constant temperature heating at 210℃±10℃, electrostatic powder spraying, and high-temperature curing. For dual-layer FBE coating projects, the production process fully follows ISO 21809-2 specifications to enhance mechanical damage resistance. Field joint coating construction and inspection strictly abide by ISO 21809-3 standards. Every FBE gate valve is equipped with traceable inspection reports, providing 20+ years of long-term anti-corrosion protection for buried harsh working conditions and solving common industry problems such as coating peeling, pinhole corrosion, and early pipeline failure.
